Cerium Doped Quartz Flashlamps

The UV transmission properties of quartz can be modified by the incorporation of cerium or titanium oxides. The quartz still appears clear but the UV transmission has been modified or eliminated.

In addition to UV modification, ozone is also eliminated. Consider Cerium Dopen Quartz flashlamps for the prevention of UV damage to Nd:YAG rods, reflectors, plastics and “O” rings.

Cerium doped quartz is a clear fused quartz doped with cerium oxide. This material has significant applications in flashlamps for laser pumping. The UV cut off at approximately 380 nanometers ensures that harmful UV is eliminated from the pump chamber.

The UV absorption is accompanied by fluorescence in the visible spectrum and an increase in laser efficiency can be expected as some of it falls in the absorption bands of Nd:YAG.

Cerium doped quartz is very stable throughout lamp life making it a very desirable material for flashlamps.
